In the weird way I have two countries I am visiting very often - Poland and United Kingdom. First one because of many projects and I have great and dear friends from Poland. The second one has been in my radar for a long time and I had the chance and excuse to visit the island when one of my best friends was volunteering in Scotland. I fell in love.
Ever since my first visit to London and Edinburgh in 2009, I have been visiting UK at least once a year. So far I have been to London, Birmingham, Gloustershire, Bristol, York, Glasgow, Prestwick (or nearby places), Edinburgh. What is the magic of the country and the culture? Or should I say countries and cultures...
The politeness in the language
I just love how it seems like the politeness is coded inside the language. "Are You all right, my dear?" "Can I help You, darling?" It all may seem superficial and maybe it is in my pink romantic eyes, but I just love it.
The pub culture
I like beer and I like how people gather in pubs after work. It doesn't have to be 11 pm to start your evening. Of course there should be limits of alcohol consumption but the overall "lets meet in the pub, lets play some music" is very nice. And friendly.
The architecture
The brownish working-class houses, the castles and manors. These all suit very well with the landscape, weather and the history. There is something romantic about it which I can't explain yet. This is what made me fall in love.
I will definitely write about England and Scotland more. Especially about Edinburgh which is one of my favorite cities so far.
